A variety of tools and techniques can be used to create an appropriate treatment for each individual based on the assessment at the beginning of each consult.
Single use sterile Japanese needles:
Very fine needles are inserted very shallowly into the skin at points along the meridian. Once the needles are inserted they will be retained anywhere from 5 minutes up to 20 minutes. During this time there should be no pain, but the client may feel a spreading sensation around the area that is needled, sometimes described as pulsing, running, tingling or numbness, and warmth. This is known as “deqi” (feeling the qi). If there is pain due to the needle, the client should let the practitioner know so the needle can be removed or adjusted until there is no pain felt.
Moxibustion is the burning of dried mugwort plant (artemesia vulgaris) also known as moxa. Moxibustion is used to stimulate and warm up the points and the meridians. Moxibustion techniques can be applied via the direct method or indirect method:
- Direct moxa techniques involve placing a cone of moxa directly on the skin or on top of salt on the skin and lighting the top. The cone is quickly removed when you begin to feel the heat. These cones can vary in size from quite large; to tiny cones which look like pieces of thread or grains of rice.
- Indirect moxa techniques burn moxa away from the skin by various methods including; using a burning moxa incense stick inserted into different sized stainless steel tubes known as a Tiger Warmer, Lion Warmer or Elephant warmer. This heats the end of the tube where it is applied to the Acupoints, meridians and muscles over a tissue or cloth covering the skin for maximum comfort; Moxa punk is applied to the top of needles and burnt to create heat; Burning moxa inside a piece of bamboo and pressing the warm bamboo along the meridians, known as Ontake.
These moxa techniques have different therapeutic effects. For chronic problems, it can be used to tonify, bring energy into the body, and stimulate the immune system, but it can also be used to disperse stagnation and strongly stimulate chi to deal with acute pain and inflammation. When moxa is burned it emits the same frequency as infra-red rays which are used to stimulate micro-circulation in the body to enhance healing, similar to that of an infra-red heat lamp.
Ion Pumping Cord (IPC):
The IPC is made from a simple copper wire containing a germanium silicone diode at the red clip. Attaching the positive and negative clips of the IPC to two needles inserted shallowly / SSPs uses the body’s own bioelectric current to create a polarity between the two needles or SSPs and electronic and ionic currents will begin to flow inside the body. The diode will only allow this small bioelectric current to flow in a one-way direction, from one needle to another, balancing ionic flows and concentrations.
Triple Bypass Cords (TBC):
The TBC consists of three attached cords that have built in two diodes allowing the stimulation of three needles in a circular movement of electrons as compared to the linear movement of the Ion Pumping cords. The red and green clip has a germanium diode and a black clip has no diode.
Silver Spike Point (SSP)
SSPs are silver pointed discs that are taped onto the skin which are used instead of needles in conjunction with IPC and TBC. They do not pierce the skin, rather press on the skin and are used when needles are not tolerated, for children or for people who are sensitive to energy.
Copper rings with germanium diodes and Gold rings with diodes and magnets are semi-conductors that move the flow of energy and ions in the direction of the meridians, and produce a healing micro-current at the site of application. They can be used with Triple Bypass Cords and Pachi Pachi or by themselves for the treatment of scars, inflammation, pain, swelling & cardiovascular and Blood Pressure problems.
The Paci Paci sparker creates a continuous static discharge that is used in conjunction with Triple Bypass cords to spark the needle or above the area being treated to help initiate good ion flow.
Note: **Not to be used with people who have pacemakers or other magnetic devices such as insulin pumps etc.
Designed and made by a NASA engineer, the absorbers are constructed from high quality brass material probes with the main body being insulated. The probes are shaped for maximum extraction of ions removing the static build up in the body tissues. The two rods have diodes within the units and are connected by a high quality low resistance two-meter flexible silicone cable terminated with spring-loaded connectors to insert into the brass rods. These can be applied to a small point on the skin surface where it uses the body’s own bioelectric current to create a polarity between the two points whereby electronic and ionic currents will begin to flow inside the body.
Sterling Silver Chain:
Most commonly used to treat scars, pain and injuries, usually in conjunction with Triple Bypass Cords.
Meridian Therapy Tools
Meridian Therapy tools are used to stimulate the meridians in a non-insertive way, so do not puncture the skin and can be made of various precious metals, such as copper, silver, gold, or gold plate and zinc. They can be used on adults and children.
Manaka Hammer with Wooden Needle
Manaka Hammer with wooden needle is made of cherry wood and is another non-invasive tool that can be used anytime and anywhere to improve patient's health.
It can be used on a daily basis and is good for home therapy. It relieves stress and tension and its effects are similar to shallow needling and in some cases deeply inserted needles especially when a deep and distinctive sensation is evoked by the vibration of the wooden needle.
The wooden needle is placed over the acupuncture point and struck with the leather pad of the wooden hammer to create a vibration into the point. This is used in conjunction with a metronome that is set at the speed of each distinct meridian which makes it a tool of vibration and sound therapy.
Can be used similarly to ion pumping cords as part of polarity therapy. 600 gauss to 3000 gauss magnets continually stimulate points along the meridian while helping to reduce inflammation of injured tissues. They are used during treatments and can be left on between treatments as home therapy.
These are tiny pellets made from either vacaria seeds, stainless steel, sterling silver or gold press balls which are applied to the points with tape to apply constant stimulation in-between treatments as home therapy. They can be applied to body acupoints and to points on the ear.
TDP Mineral Lamp
When the Mineral Lamp is heated it emits the FIR (far infra red) energy or frequency, resulting in many therapeutic benefits. FIR energy belongs to the red light spectrum that is invisible to the human eye. This FIR frequency (infra red rays) heat and stimulates the micro-circulation by penetrating up to 9 cm below the skin to assist the body's natural healing process by increasing blood circulation to injured areas, promoting tissue repair, while eliminating toxins and cellular waste.
- Relieves Muscle Pain, Joint Pain, Inflammation and Soft Tissue Injuries
TDP lamp increases blood circulation, which aids in muscle relief by emitting 33 essential minerals into your body. The absorbed energy promotes micro circulation and metabolism, helps improve the immune system. Good for people with sore muscles, arthritis, bursitis, back ache, tennis elbow and joint pains.
- Relaxes Muscle and Improves Range Of Motion
TDP lamp causes the muscles to relax, which will improve range of motion and help insomnia.
- It emits the same frequency as moxibustion so can be used as a replacement for moxa therapy and is perfect for covering large areas and for tonifying the body.
Colour and Sound Therapy
Based on 5 Element Theory, colour can be used to treat acupuncture points, either by using a colour therapy torch or non-toxic markers. The colour therapy torch has a terminated quartz crystal on the end where different coloured discs are used to change the colour of the light going through the crystal and into the point.
In the same way, each element has a specific sound that can be used during the treatment which can be made by the practitioner while the client visualises the corresponding colour. Other sound therapies include the use of the metronome with cherry wood sound that matches the speed of the meridian being treated. This metronome is also used with the Manaka Hammer but can be used on its own. Each 5 Element also has a specific sound that can be used to tonify them either during the treatment or as home therapy.
These are vibrational remedies that work brilliantly with the emotions. When taken regularly they are a beautiful tool to help change negative subconscious patterns and create a positive pattern in its place. In this way they assist in changing old belief patterns that interfere with the body's ability to self-heal.
Oriental medicine recognises the role that emotions play in health and well being and within the 5 Element Theory, specific emotions are assigned to specific energetic organs in the body. I.e. the Liver is related to anger and frustration, the Lungs to grief, the Spleen & Stomach to worry, the Heart to lack of joy and the Kidneys to fear. Chronic emotional patterns disrupt the flow of chi that goes to the body via the organs and to the cellular level. This lack of chi means that the cells are not nourished and they vibrate at a slower rate which manifests as physical symptoms of illness.
During the treatment, selected vibrational remedies are applied to acupoints on the meridians to enhance and re-establish the flow of qi thereby increasing the vibration of the cells. They can also be applied onto the chakras, the spine and other body areas.
Selected essential oils are used on chakras and other areas of the body such as the soles of the feet to enhance the flow of qi during the treatment. Selected essential oils and SOE Essential Vibrations may also be vaporised in the room during the treatment to aid in relaxation and healing.
Reiki and Energy Healing:
Reiki and Energy healing is "Universal Life Energy" or "Spiritual Energy". This universal energy is directed via the practitioner to the client through the practitioner’s hands which can be applied directly onto the body or from holding the hands above the body. For clients who are unable to tolerate needles or are extremely sensitive to energy, the points on the meridians can be stimulated with the application of SOE Essential Vibrations, Reiki and Energy healing.
Myofascial Release & Cranio-sacral Therapy
Myofascial Release is a type of body work that is gentle and effective for releasing the fascia which relieves tight muscles and helps to re-align the physical body. Cranio-sacral Therapy is an extremely light touch therapy that works around the head and sacrum to re-establish the cranio-sacral rhythm and treats a variety of imbalances.
These techniques are applied when necessary as part of the overall treatment.
Sotai targets structural imbalances or restrictions in the muscle-tendino meridians. If the muscles become imbalanced, it impairs the flow of chi, disturbs the circulation & function of the meridians & eventually their related organs.
Vice-Versa disorder of the organs / meridians can lead to weak or tight muscles.
- A variety of pain, contraction, spasm conditions in muscles, tendons and joints
- Imbalanced hypertonicity (tight) – hypotonicity (weak)
- Disorder of the physical structure & symmetry of the body.
These techniques are applied when necessary as part of the overall treatment.
